Used to Germany: 1856, 5¢ red brown, six examples, all with margins all around except one with top added and painted in and right stamp replaced, all tied by NEWPORT R.I. JAN 22 (some improvements) cds on 1858 complete folded letter bearing red N. YORK JAN 26 PAID BR. PKT and boxed red AACHEN FRANCO transits, manuscript "by the Prussian Closed Mail …" and German receiver on the reverse. An extraordinary franking being one of only a few covers known bearing six examples. An exhibition piece, Foundation certificate (1991) and revised Foundation certificate (2013) (Scott 12). Estimate $7,500 - 10,000.

Brunei, 1906, Labuan Issue overprinted, 1¢ black & purple, overprint error, overprinted in black instead of red, sheet margin single, used with 50¢ on 16¢ green & brown, both tied on local envelope by deep blue BRUNEI 14 JAN 19 cds, Very Fine, an extremely rare cover (S.G. catalog value is 30x used price), Brandon certificate (2011). Only one sheet of 100 of the error was printed and sent by mistake. There is only one other cover bearing the error, in the F.E. Ward collection (1965) and was sold in a Singapore auction for S$23,000 (approximately US$13,000). A rare and popular error and a great postal history gem of South East Asia .

To get an idea of how rare an unused one shilling is, the Hackmey collection had one example, Agabeg one, Burrus/Ferrari one, Max Simon/Odenweller one, and this example, which must be considered one of the finest. There are perhaps two other examples .

Dominican Republic, 1866, Coat of Arms, 1r black on pale green, laid paper, watermarked, without gum as issued; "pressed out crease", large margins all around, still Very Fine, Moorhouse certificate (2011) (Scott 8). Scott $13,000
One of the rarest stamps of the Dominican Republic. Of the three or four examples found in the Lilly, Caspary, Dale, Ferrari and the excellent S.G. sales, all had no gum and were creased. There was no example in the Hennan collection .

Between the Kanai and Dale-Lichtenstein collections, there were only two sound Early Impression "Penoe" errors, and this stamp listed as sound. Most other sale cannot be trusted for correct identification of impression. The recent Chartwell Collection had no example .

According to Charles Freeland, only four or five examples exist. There were no examples in the Charlton-Henry or Toeg sales, and surprisingly not even the Alexander Reid collection. The Meyer example (sound) realized £5,500 .

Cape of Good Hope, 1858 "Triangular", Perkins Bacon printing, 1d rose + 6d deep rose lilac + 1s bright yellow green, square pairs of 1d and 6d, all with mixed margins and tied by triangular grids on MR 21 1866 envelope from SWELLENDEN to the Netherlands, bearing red LONDON transit and faint red LEIDEN Holland receiver on the reverse; some cover soiling, an impressive 3-color franking. Lot 287
Barbados, 1855, "Britannia" (1d) pale blue, imperf, uncancelled L-shaped strip of 4, the bottom right example bisected diagonally, margins almost all around, used on part of Mercantile Intelligence bearing partial adress Stewart's Hill, St. John's. The stamps are sound except for one lightly creased, the piece bears faults and repairs. SG 9 var. (Scott 6a var.). Estimate $2,000 - 3,000
This example is unique outside example in the Royal Collection (single, bisected), which is on an equal sized piece of newspaper bearing the same addressing and very similar, if not the same, handwriting. The only other bisect from this early period is an example of the grayish slate on cover from the Charlton-Henry, Amundsen and Cartier collections .
