U.S., 1861, 5¢ brown, First Design (Scott 57), deep rich color and impression, a truly insignificant "small corner crease at bottom right" which is in fact the corner perforation. A truly brilliant stamp, Very Fine for this issue.Census No 57-0 G-07., ex Pratt, 1954 Foundation Cert #5005 sound, 2010 Foundation Cert #490924.

The 5¢ has been the only value of the "Premiere Gravures" that carries a catalogue value based on a stamp "with small faults" as so few copies are sound. Our study has found only six o.g. copies that are equal or better than the example presented here.

Newfoundland, Conception Bay Packets and Couriers 1805-1851, a comprehensive exhibition collection of 60 mounted and 24 loose stampless covers, on annotated gilt edged quadrille pages in de-luxe album. Probably all the boats represented, several letters transposed for easier reading. Includes 2 poster advertising stock share sales. A wonderous and fresh collection of this period, ex Pratt.
